Exercise Update

I know, I've been TERRIBLE at updating.  But guess what?  It's hot, I'm busy, and although I love you ALL, I just don't feel up to it.  My days have largely been devoted to work, learning how to cook new veggies (broccoli raab, garlic scapes, swiss chard.... so many new things!), reading, and working out.  Yeah.  I've even stopped watching much tv.  I know.  Something's obviously VERY wrong.


I thought I'd give you guys an update on my workout routine.  I got my new shoes:

I'm on the last week of P90X.... well, I've done more than 12 weeks (there's 13 in all) but I keep doing some of the weeks over again because I feel like they give more results.  The Yoga X and Core Synergistics are okay, but I like the weight lifting the most. 

I have lost 6 pounds since starting my new "gotta get less chubby" plan in January.  It's not a LOT by ANY stretch of the imagination, but it's something.  I was feeling pretty good about the way I looked the other day, so I thought I'd take my measurements. 

While I'm not skinny by any stretch of the imagination, so far I've lost the following:

1.5 inches of my waist
1 inch of my hips
.5 inches off both arms
1.5 inches off both thighs.

Soooo all together that's 4.5 inches!  Which is definitely an improvement.  I'd really like to lose more around my hips, but I know that's where I keep the most fat, so it's going to hard.  But still, to see those numbers... that's motivating.  And I DEFINITELY feel more athletic.  My calves are STRONG now, and I can lift SO much more weight.  Like alternating shoulder presses... one month ago I could do 8lbs 40 times, max.  Now I can do 8lbs 60 times.  That's definitely SOMETHING.  My arms have more definition and I feel so much more confident in shorter skirts.  I would still LOVE to lose another 15 pounds of fat and gain 5 more in muscle... but hey, I'll take what I can get.  If I keep up the P90x and continue with the running (just started again last week, and I'm easing into it with my friend Ashley), I think I'll be looking pretty darn good come October.  So, we'll see. 

Oh!  And I started using My Fitness Pal every day, and that TOTALLY helps.  Keeping track of every single thing I put in my mouth, and all my exercise, really shows me what's going on with my energy in, energy out.  If I keep a big enough calorie deficit, I know I'll lose some weight.  If my sodium levels are WAY higher than recommended for a day, that's a good enough reason to feel bloaty.  It definitely helps.  And if you have a fancy smart phone (mine's a data phone, but not a smart phone) you can get their app, and I hear it's awesome.

Any other success stories out there?  Doing alright?  Need motivation?  How's your fitness?
