At Yeast I Tried

Forgive me for the title.

So apparently I just don't GET yeast.  I tried to make bread again tonight and it just didn't work out right!  It was still good but it was very dense and not beautiful and airy.  Maybe I should have waited longer to mix it in??  I put it in some water with a pinch of sugar and let it sit for at least 7 minutes.  I think the water should have been warmer...

Anyways, I failed, again.  I just want it to be awesome and delicious!!  And I REALLY want a breadmaker; I think I'd screw up less.

I also made spaghetti squash tonight, and I've decided to make "mock-coconut pie" which is made with spaghetti squash.

Bryan is TERRIFIED.

The idea both grosses me out and appeals to me, so I'm excited to try it.  I'll probably do it tomorrow while Bryan is out riding his bike/fishing/doing whatever it is that he does.

I'm still sick, so I've been lazy (except for the cooking and baking), and I haven't had any interest in blogging, so I'm sorry for being so boring.  I'm hoping this goes away, and FAST.

Another thing that I'm being impatient about is JOBS.  I turned down three jobs that I just felt weren't what I wanted/needed.  I knew that I had a good chance of getting one of the two jobs I'd interviewed well at; I was told yesterday that I didn't get the job as bank teller.

Wah, wah, whaaaaahhh.

Whatevs.

I'm pretty sure I got the hospital position, but I have to wait for them to talk to HR and call me back.  It sounds pretty positive though; they asked me when I could start, told me a few pet projects I'd be working on, that sort of thing.  They mentioned me starting before November, but if I don't hear back from them until the 11th, and they know I'll be out of town from the 21-31st... well, we'll see how that works out.  I really want to go with Bryan to his training in Montana.  He'll be at sessions all day, but I'll have the car and be around lots of shops, and a new place.  Plus, the hotel we'd be staying at has a pool and fitness center, and I really love the idea of spending an hour a day on an elliptical.  I know, some people HATE that sort of exercise and would rather be outside, but I love how I just turn off my brain and go for it.  So that would be cool.

We'll see.  I feel like so many people that I love are experiencing the same thing we have been experiencing for a YEAR now:  the sense of "What next??"

Hopefully the answer will be "Something Awesome!!!"

  1. I had to leave the dough for a couple hours before it would rise correctly. Even the quick rising yeast doesn't work that quickly, which sucks.

I'm sorry you're sick. Just a cold? I hope you get it out of your system before Myrtle!

  2. Yeah I think I'm too impatient and should have given it more an ::cough:: hour to rise.

Well. That was silly of me. Maybe in Myrtle we can bake bread together and you can SHOW me how you do, because I feel like I have to watch someone make bread in front of me for me to really get it.

Yep, it's just a cold I got from my friend Kati. First two days I was a snotbucket, third day it moved more to my lungs, and today I woke up with a weird sounding voice, but at least my nose isn't running. I'm doing that gross cough-up-phlegm thing though, so I'm not really great for civilized society.

I'm hoping Bryan doesn't get it!! Even if he does, it should be long gone by Myrtle, I think I'll be feeling good as new come Monday or Tuesday.

  3. I'd love to bake bread at Myrtle with you! Dave thinks I'm lame for wanting to go on vacation just to make the same food I do at home. But whatever, I think it'll be fun. :)
