C25K Week 2 Day 2

I did my second run on Wednesday and it felt great! Once again, I was really sore when finishing; my left leg keeps cramping right in between the ankle and the shin. My right leg keeps just feeling kind of weird, which isn't a new phenomena. Apparently I may have sciatica or something... but every so often it feels tight, almost numb right at the the inside part of the calf. Whatevs. I sort of assume losing weight will help a lot of things, including leg pain and that sort of thing. But losing weight and building muscle can't be a bad thing, can it?

C25K Week 2 Day 1

Started week 2 today, and it went well.  Week Two starts with a 5 minute walking warm-up and then progresses into running 90 seconds, walking 2 minutes, running 90 seconds, walking two minutes, etc, until you've run for 9 minutes total.  It ends with a 5 minute walking cool down.

It definitely got hard at one point, and I actually said out loud (but not TOO loud) to Mr. Podcast guy "Hey, I'm about done, tell me to stop running!!!!"

It was good however.  I definitely got a good workout, and it was nice to see that I can progress slowly.  Bryan and I talked about getting me some better shoes, but I don't want to get them until I can prove that I will keep this up.

In other news, we're for sure moving to Jackson this spring.  Bryan told a lot of people today at Madison's first birthday party.  I would have liked to have told my girlfriends myself, but he was asked point blank "have you figured out what you're going to do?  Do you have a job?" and he wasn't about to lie or sidestep the question, so....

Right now we're just trying to figure out our finances.  Going on a two week vacation over the holidays definitely hit our bank accounts pretty hard.  April will definitely be tough for us, but I think we'll be able to make it work without having to dip into my grandfather's trust money.  But if we need it, it's there.

I think this is the right thing for us.  We prayed about it, felt good about it, and it all worked out really quickly.  And then I got a fortune cookie that said "An enjoyable vacation is awaiting you near the mountains."  And Bryan's fortune said something about vacation as well.  Now, this wouldn't be a vacation, but still.  Seemed funny and like good timing.  And then today a car pulled out in front of me that had the same JH sticker I had on my old car.  So they were little, silly things, but it felt like a "yep, you're headed in the right direction" sort of thing.

So there is that.

In August 2006, I wrote a livejournal entry with pictures of Jackson, of my new boyfriend, Bryan, and of my Jackson friends. "Please don't make me leave yet" it said.

And now it's 2010 and we've been married for two and a half years and we're going back to Jackson this summer, if all works out.

Have I come full circle?

In August of 2006 I wanted to stay in Jackson but go back to Chicago. I miss people I was not around and I didn't want to leave the people I was around. It was very strange.

Now it is January 2010 and I miss people who I live far from, but I don't want to leave the people here that I feel so close to; but I think it's time for the next big thing. We need a little adventure, and we can't live here forever while still accomplishing all of our goals.

So for the first time that I know of, I want to move East.

But only as far east as Wyoming.

Ahhh life you are full of many emotions, many ups and downs, many sorrows... but many delights as well.

Ohhhhhhhhh yeah, finished the first week of C25K! I think my shoes suck. I keep getting a cramp in my left shin, and a tiny bit of one in my right shin. It's a pain. Hahaha, literally.

Saturday starts the new week.

That's about all I have to stay about that now because I keep thinking about what we're going to be doing in a couple of months and where we'll be living and all of that and it's crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy and too much to worry about for the moment.

But yes. The run today was very nice, and it wasn't raining, which is a plus.

"Forever young, I want to be forever young.... do you really want to live forever, and ever?"

Bryan heard this song on a tv show and was singing it when I came home. He said "better run if you want to be forever young." Okay, okay. It's raining, and it's dark, but I'll do it.

So I "suited up" (anyone else watch HIMYM?): socks, shoes, sweat pants, sports bra, workout top that holds my cell phone so I can listen to my podcast, and raincoat. Doin' it Humboldt style, right down to the ear warmer/headband thing I crocheted for myself to wear while running.

Today was pretty easy! My breathing was easier, my legs hurt more, but my ankles actually didn't love it, and I got a cramp in my left shin-area. Ouchy

It was nice to be able to run-- I felt proud of myself! And then I felt cold and rainy so I started really hoping it would just stop. I didn't do the 5 minute cool down outside; instead I came in and walked back and forth in the apartment for a couple of minutes, and stretched.

I am now making chili with plenty of beans. Bryan doesn't usually like chili (for shame!) but our friend Kendra Wageman made some when we visited Idaho last month, and he really liked that. So I am trying to make it more like Kendra's (with bbq sauce) and hopefully Bryan will enjoy it. Either way, it's a high protein fairly low calorie dinner that will fill us up. And I'm making a huge vat of it, so I can eat it throughout the week. This weight loss stuff is hard but I am really hoping it pays off!!! Just that fact that I didn't have a regular exercise pattern these past few months and now I am running 3 times a week will help out SOMEWHAT.

So that's it for tonight. Feeling good!! Last run for week 1 of C25K? Thursday.

Well folks, I have decided to take up running. I know, I know, it's not a big deal to most of you, but I happen to be that wimp in the back of PE saying "But I can't... my knees... and I have exercise induced asthma... and I'm PMSing... and I'm pretty sure I'm working on a bit of the flu..."

It's true that I HAVE had knee problems since college, when I spent at least 30 minutes 5-7 times a week in the gym on the hill-climber thing without really working up to it or stretching. But I have made that much too much of an excuse. Couple that with my "sit for 8 hours a day" job, and I've gotten a bit tubby, it's true. I think it took me a while to really admit that I was not at all happy with the way I look. When you gradually put on weight, it's easy to say "it's just a fat day" or "well it's that time of the month" or "well I DO eat a lot of Ramen, and you know how much sodium that has..."

Well, no more excuses. I want to get healthy.

When I have a bit more time (hahaha, like that will ever happen) here are some things I would like to accomplish:

Read "The Pursuit of God," "How to Speak of God," "Red-Letter Christian"

Learn how to can

Work my way up to being able to run a 5k, and then a 10k

Sew more

Crochet a blanket for Bryan and I, instead of for all these babies everyone keeps having! :)

Get an actual blog going that has some sort of concentration. I love this blog and my livejournal, but they don't really have a theme.

Plant a garden

Cook at least half of the recipes in my Pioneer Woman Cookbook

Learn how to quilt

That's all for the moment :)

So this is the new year...

Well, we're two weeks into the New Year, and I'm finishing my second week back from vacation at work. We had such a lovely time visiting Bryan's family in Idaho! We visited the family back in June, and at that time it looked like Bryan and I would be the only ones coming home for Christmas. But it wasn't that way at all! Stuart and Nicole visited from Rexburg, which was really fun. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Becca and the boys, Mason and Tyson, are moving into Nana and Papa's for the next six months until Jon finishes his contact at the hospital dental department in Oklahoma. I was bummed about what happened to Jon, but super excited to see Becca and the boys! And Jon came up for the whole week after Christmas! It was very nice. Not only that, but Matt and Becky came up from New Mexico to Utah for baby Scotty's blessing. We all trekked down to Utah to see him be blessed, and got to have a very nice lunch with the family. It was a great time all in all. We got to do a spa night with the ladies (Heidi was really the focus of the event; she's just getting to the point where doing her hair and nails is interesting to her) and it was a very fun and funny time. I know Heidi felt really pretty after getting dolled up, which was important to all of us as she doesn't always realize what a pretty, sweet almost 13 year old she is to all of us.
